How To Build Value in Yourself

Any network marketing guru will tell you that you’re only worth as much as the amount of value you bring to the marketplace.

Even we have said it before in previous trainings.

But what does that mean? How do you make yourself valuable and increase the size of your check while you’re at it?

These 2 questions are ones we asked ourselves and when we figured it out, sure enough our check started growing!

It all comes down to 3 points that are crucial to building value in yourself.


Point #1: Build your knowledge 

What do you do to better yourself everyday?

Self-education and personal development are the most important things you can do to move your business forward.

What books do you read? Are you going to reach for the latest romance novel before bed or are you going to actually increase your knowledge in your business by reading books that will give you value?

Can you be found watching trainings done by your mentors on Thursday night or are you watching Grey’s Anatomy? (Nothing wrong with Grey’s Anatomy, but really the series was ruined the second they killed off McDreamy anyway.)

Do you invest in yourself and build your own check by listening to MP3 trainings while you’re driving to work? Or are you building a check for Taylor Swift or Justin Timberlake?

Do you attend your company’s events? Or do you decide it’s too much money to go?

Whit and I have mentors we follow online and a bookshelf full of books that have only made us better.

First starting in network marketing, we really became students of the industry. We wanted to know everything about network marketing, money, human behavior, and how to make it to the top of our company.

In the 3 years we’ve been in network marketing, we have never missed a company event and even attend events that aren’t put on by our company. Events are the most powerful way to increase your knowledge. You won’t know what you needed to learn if you don’t go.

Now I’m not saying you can’t enjoy life and your business won’t grow if you watch Grey’s Anatomy!lol I admit I never miss an episode of Bachelor or Bachelorette when it’s airing. But I watch them later at night after I’ve made time for my own personal development and kids are in bed. (Thank heavens for DVR.)

Point #2: Build your skill set 

The only way to build your skill set is by doing. Period.

If you struggle with inviting people to take a look at your opportunity, the best thing for you to do is start inviting until you master it.

If you struggle with presenting, the best thing you can do is make it a point to present your opportunity to as many people as you can in a short period of time.

By doing this, you’ll learn what works and what doesn’t.

This philosophy goes for everything in your business… even building online.

I’ll be the first to admit my blogs are probably not the best, but is there not value in what I share? I’ve made it a point to continue writing blogs even though it would be much easier to stick with video, because it’s a skill set I need to master.

Lets quickly make a list of things we do in our network marketing business that may require a little skill:

  • Relationship building
  • Databasing
  • Inviting
  • Presenting
  • Follow up
  • Overcoming objections
  • Training new distributors
  • Leadership
  • Building depth

The list goes on and on… Things that may require a little skill when building online include:

  • Relationship building
  • Training
  • Blogging
  • Content creation
  • Video marketing
  • Networking

This just names a few. The best part about this process is it doesn’t take mastering every single skill to hit 5, 6, or even 7 figures. But with every skill you master, you’re one step closer to hitting your financial goals and helping a lot of people while you do it.


Point #3: Share your knowledge and results

This is a key point that many people fail to do. They’ll go to an event and take pages of notes, or read a book, or listen to a training, and keep all of that valuable information to themselves.

What good does it do to attend an event and fill a notebook with notes if you’re never going to use it or share it?

You need to demonstrate how valuable you are in order to start attracting people to you.

It wasn’t until we started branding ourselves online and sharing our knowledge from the past 3 years of experience with our community that our business really started to take off.

Ways we demonstrate our value include Facebook LIVEs, our blog, video marketing, webinars, and email marketing.

We now attract people into our business that look to us as leaders, because they’ve already been learning from us and following us for who knows how long online.

We no longer have to prospect our waiter at dinner or the cashier at Walmart unless we really see potential in that person. Do you realize how powerful that is? Not having to feel the need to prospect every person with a pulse?

You can have these same results. Start by creating a fan page that sets you up as a public figure. (It’s free) Use your name! You are branding yourself. Not your company or product. You are your best product! Then start sharing what you know through video and blogging. Anyone can do this… even if you aren’t a technology expert.
